As I have taken ceramics in the past and other art classes, I have learned a lot since my first day. The classes I took out of school have impacted me a lot. The skills I already knew have helped me with what we do in school. As an artist I have grown a lot from the start. From making my first pinch pot to this awesome cheese slab box, I have learned many techniques. As I was creating my projects, I wanted to create something that looked different from what everyone else was making. If we were doing pinch pots, I would make a design differently from what the most common was. Or for my last project the Slab Box. Mostly lots of the students made Slab Boxes that were just square boxes, but mine look like a slab of cheese. Yellow with dents that looked like holes to get the cheese effect, and to top that off I added a mouse sticking its head out of the cheese. It had the ears in one place, the tail in one place and the head in another. I expressed my creativity through my art, and that is what made it unique. Throughout the art making process, I wanted to achieve a finished final project that for me, I thought looked neat, well made and creative. I accomplished that in my Slab Box. Honestly, I was influenced by the work I searched up on google. But I was also influenced by the cool artwork I have seen around the school, outside and pieces I have made in the past that I wanted to recreate. All of the different pieces that these amazing artists have created is what inspired me to create these creative and different pieces. The decision making process of selecting what I wanted to make was with the help of google and my friends. I would always listen to what my friends said because I trusted their opinion. I basically select a theme based on what the project is that we are assigned. I would find something on google and I would think, how could I create that so its my own? At some points in the making of projects, I struggled. I would mess something up or have to start over because my clay got too dry and that was annoying. My work was improved by being broken to being an awesome cheese slab box. From starting with not so much technique, I have learned so much throughout the year and a lot of new skills that I can apply to art that I will soon be creating. As an artist I grew both my knowledge of clay and my craftsmanship abilities involving “hands-on” art. All in all, this past semester benefitted me in so many ways. I made new friends, matured as an artist, and gained more knowledge of art and clay as a whole. I really enjoyed this class and all it taught me and I’m excited to continue and apply my newly found artistic ability in other ways in my life.
